Country

The name "Norway" was originated from the phrase "the Northern Way". Now the name signifies the position of the country i.e. in the northern region of Europe. on the face of Norway, there are mountains, uplands, lowlands and tablelands. Almost two-third of the surface is covered with mountainous regions.

Coastal regions also cover a considerable area of the country. Besides that some valleys and tundra are also there in the land of Norway. The highest altitude of the country is the Galdhopiggen peak that rises almost 2,469 meters above the sea level. On the other hand the lowest point of the country is the Norwegian Sea.

The Kingdom of Norway is located in the northern region of the European continent and in the western region of the Scandinavian Peninsula . The neighboring nations that share their borders with Norway, are Sweden in the eastern side, Finland and Russia. Norway is in fact a Nordic country.

Business Economy

Norway is an economically stable country. It is partially dependent on its natural resources and agricultural products. Farming and fishing are the two major occupations of the Norwegian people. The natural resources are natural gas, iron ore, petroleum, copper, zinc, titanium, lead, pyrites, nickel, timber, hydropower and so on. Some of the agricultural resources of the country are barley, pork, potatoes, beef, veal etc. The industries that are growing fast in this country are food processing industry, shipbuilding industry, petroleum and gas, paper industry, metal industry, textile industry, timber industry, mining industry and so on. The primary export materials of Norway are petroleum products, ships, fish, metals etc. UK, Germany, France, Netherlands, US, Sweden are the nations that are involved in the export business with Norway.

Natural Resources

Norway's main natural resources such as natural gas, oil, copper, lead and timber have sustained a stable and resilient economy, but it is the prudent management of this resource wealth that differentiates Norway as a nation. A shipping superpower, a seafood giant, and the world's third largest exporter of petroleum.

Higher Education

Norway is one of the leading countries conforming to the guidelines from the Bologna Process in European higher education. The degree system based on the Bachelor's, Masters and Ph.D. structure has been successfully implemented, together with the ECTS credits system. By adapting to the European standard in higher education it is easy for students at Norwegian institutions to obtain recognition of their qualifications in other countries.Higher education in Norway is comprised of a mixture of both public and private universities. Higher education is offered by a range of eight universities, nine specialised universities, 24 university colleges as well as a range of private university colleges. Some are specialized, some comprehensive, and some – known as ‘university colleges’ – concentrate mainly on providing undergraduate-level education in a range of more vocationally focused subjects.

Tourism

Norway is a Scandinavian country encompassing mountains, glaciers and deep coastal fjords. Oslo, the capital, is a city of green spaces and museums. Preserved 9th-century Viking ships are displayed at Oslo’s Viking Ship Museum. Bergen, with colorful wooden houses, is the starting point for cruises to the dramatic Sognefjord. Norway is also known for fishing, hiking and skiing, notably at Lillehammer’s Olympic resort.

Climate Weather

The climate of Norway is much milder than that of most other regions as far north, especially along the country's west coast. Snow that falls along the coast melts often immediately. The warm North Atlantic Current of the Gulf Stream keeps nearly all the seaports ice-free, even in the northern regions. During winter, Norway's inland regions are colder than the coast because mountains block the warm west winds from the sea.Snow covers the ground at least three months a year. During the summer months, when the sea is cooler than the land, the stuation is different; then the west winds cool the coast more than the inland so the warmest summers are in the inland valleys of the southeast. Average temperatures vary between -10°C in January in Spitzbergen and +16°C in July in Oslo.

Required clothing

Lightweights in warmer months, with extra woollens for walking and the cooler evenings. Medium- to heavyweights are advised in winter. Waterproofing is recommended throughout the year. Be prepared for rapid and extreme weather changes, no matter where and when you go
