Country
Chile is a long, narrow country stretching along South America's western edge, with more than 6,000km of Pacific Ocean coastline.officially Republic of Chile is bordered by Peru on the north, Bolivia on the northeast, Argentina on the east, and the Pacific Ocean on the west and south.Santiago is the capital and the largest city Santiago sits in a valley surrounded by the Andes and Chilean Coast Range mountains. The city's palm-lined Plaza de Armas contains the neoclassical cathedral and the National History Museum. The massive Parque Metropolitano offers swimming pools, a botanical garden and zoo.Chile is one of South America's most stable and prosperous nations. It has been relatively free of the coups and arbitrary governments that have blighted the continent.Chile's unusual, ribbon-like shape - 4,300 km long and on average 175 km wide - has given it a hugely varied climate. This ranges from the world's driest desert - the Atacama - in the north, through a Mediterranean climate in the centre, to a snow-prone Alpine climate in the south, with glaciers, fjords and lakes.Chile is a multi-ethnic society, including people of European and Indian ancestry.
Economy Business
Chile has a market-oriented economy characterized by a high level of foreign trade and a reputation for strong financial institutions and sound policy that have given it the strongest sovereign bond rating in South America. Chile's main imports are petroleum and petroleum products, chemicals, electrical and telecommunications equipment, industrial machinery, vehicles, and natural gas. In addition to minerals, it also exports fruit, fish and fish products, paper and pulp, chemicals, and wine. The chief trading partners are the United States, China, Brazil, Argentina, and South Korea. copper, lithium, other minerals, foodstuffs, fish processing, ironand steel, wood and wood products, transport equipment, cement, textiles. The Chilean economy is open, with clear and stable norms which has allowed it to have a balanced and sustained growth in time. In a report by The Economist Intelligence Unit, Chile has the best environment in the region for business and is among the top 20 countries worldwide.Chile stands out from the rest of the countries for the effectiveness of its policies, labor and infrastructure. The strength and stability of its banking and financial systems have generated high credibility indexes on foreign markets, which has meant that big companies want to invest in the country, improving access to goods and services for all the people.
Higher Education
high-quality education comes at a high cost. Chile has the second most expensive private university system of any OECD country, after the United States. And due to the lack of financial aid, Chilean families shoulder 85 percent of the cost of a university education—more than any other developed nationHigher education in Chile includes professional institutes (IP), technical schooling centers (CFT) and universities. There are around 25 traditional universities (16 of them are public) and over 30 private ones.
Tourism
A narrow slither of land wedged between the Pacific and the Andes, Chile stands as a nation apart in South America – both literally and figuratively. The mountains cut the country off from Argentina and Bolivia to the east, while the expansive Atacama Desert separates it from Peru to the north. And to the south, beyond the country’s infamous Cape Horn headland, lies nothing but ocean and Antarctica. But far from being a curse, this isolation has created a very special destination indeed.A maze of fjords with wild, wind-worn isles, abundant marine life and glaciers that tumble into the Pacific, the singular landscape of Chilean Patagonia is often best admired from the deck of a boat. From the humble ferry to luxury cruises, plenty of options for all budgets ply this spectacular coastline.
Natural Resources
Chile's greatest natural resource is its abundance of copper. Chile also has the world's largest deposits of nitrate, which was the country's major source of export income before copper. Timber, from the thick forests in the south, is another important resource..
Weather Climate
Chile is generally hot and dry in the north. There are sections of the Atacama Desert where no rainfall has ever been recorded. The southern part of the country is cold and rainy, especially in the winter when rainfall can exceed 100 inches (2,500 millimeters). The Central Valley has warm and dry summers, and cool and moderately rainy winters.
Required clothing
On the beach light, casual and as colorful as possible. T-shirt and (long) pants with sports shoes are sufficient for almost all occasions. However in restaurants and public buildings, the Chileans put great emphasis on proper clothing. Shorts are taboo in the city, as well as sandals. In the Andes and Patagonia warm, waterproof clothing should be worn.
