New Zealand (in Maori, Aotearoa, "Land of the Long White Cloud") is an independent island country in the South Pacific Ocean. It is a member of the Commonwealth of Nations.New Zealand is situated about 1,600 km (1,000 mi) southeast of Australia and is made up of two large islands - North Island and South Island. Cook Strait, a channel between the South Pacific Ocean on the east and the Tasman Sea on the west separates these islands.

Higher Education
The academic year for higher education in New Zealand runs from March to November. However, some courses may also allow students to start in July. Most universities in New Zealand have just two terms (semesters), with the exception of Victoria University of Wellington, which has three terms (trimesters).
Tourism
New Zealand is a country in the southwestern Pacific Ocean consisting of 2 main islands, both marked by volcanoes and glaciation. Capital Wellington, on the North Island, is home to Te Papa Tongarewa, the expansive national museum. Wellington’s dramatic Mt. Victoria, along with the South Island’s Fiordland and Southern Lakes, stood in for mythical Middle Earth in Peter Jackson’s "Lord of the Rings" films.
Climate Weather
maritime climate is temperate with an average of roughly 2000 sunshine hours a year. New Zealand's seasons are the opposite of the northern hemisphere's - summer starts in December, autumn in March, winter in June and spring in September.January and February are the warmest months, with July the coldest.Overall, the climate is fairly mild with few extremes of temperatures. The average temperature ranges from 15°C in the upper regions of the North Island to 10°C near the bottom of the South Island.
Required clothing
waterproof light- to mediumwear is needed in the summer months, while warmer clothing is advised in the winter months, especially in the southern and mountainous areas. Take a sweater and an umbrella no matter where you go and what time of year you visit.
