Country

Liechtenstein is a German-speaking, 25km-long principality between Austria and Switzerland. It’s known for its medieval castles, alpine landscapes and villages linked by a network of trails. The capital, Vaduz, a cultural and financial center, is home to Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein, with galleries of modern and contemporary art. The Postal Museum displays Liechtenstein’s postage stamps.

Business Economy

Liechtenstein was a relatively isolated country reliant on its small agricultural sector and some textile production to support its economy. However, following World War II, Liechtenstein redefined itself from an almost exclusively agricultural state into a highly modernized, export-oriented industrial society with manufacturing as its leading sector.

Over the past 60 years, many Liechtenstein businesses have grown to become leaders in their respective fields. This was accomplished through very little government support as no economic sectors other than agriculture receive government subsidies in Liechtenstein.

Natural Resources

Industries: electronics, metal manufacturing, dental products, ceramics, pharmaceuticals, food products, precision instruments, tourism, optical instruments. Natural resources: hydroelectric potential, arable land.

Higher Education

Since the law governing higher education came into effect in 1992, Liechtenstein has a limited tertiary-education sector. In addition, Liechtenstein has contractual arrangements with Switzerland, Austria and Baden-Württemberg (Tübingen), allowing students free entry to the universities in these countries.

A prolongation is possible according to the length of studies.

Tourism

The Principality of Liechtenstein is a tiny, doubly-landlocked country tucked away between Switzerland and Austria and with mountain slopes rising above the Rhine valley

Climate Weather

Liechtenstein has a temperate, alpine climate, with warm, wet summers and mild winters. Average temperatures range from -1°C in January to 21°C in July. The climate is often modified by a warm, dry southerly wind.

Required clothing

Mediumweights with some lightweight clothing is advised for summer. Warmer heavyweights are worn in winter. Waterproofs are needed throughout the year.
